Rack and gears RPS (Roller position System)

This is a proposal of advanced technology that aims to revolutionize the rotary motion transformation systems in straight motion.

The new system eliminates the presence of backlash and ensures precise positioning over long distances, allowing for high speed operation.

The system involves the use of a cycloidal tooth rack and a roller pinion consists of a series of pins arranged on primitive circumference.

The system aims at achieving a number of purposes as follows:

·     Reduction in wear and maintenance.
·     Preservation of precision characteristics.
·     Elimination of backlash in both directions.
·     Eliminating cumulative error issues common to ball screws.

Experimentation has found repeatability values within ± 0.0127 mm (± 0.0005 inch) at extremely high speeds up to 600 m / min (10 m / sec or 34 ft / sec).

Even at these extreme speeds, due to the low friction level, no problems arise from components wear and overheating.
